Loving this!
I have a large collection of Wildstorm back issues, namely complete runs of the early volumes of Wildcats, Stormwatch, Gen13, Wetworks, Deathblow, Team 7, Grifter, DV8, Wildcore, The Authority and Planetary up to the Devils Night era and then most of the titles for a year after Worldstorm.
I’m enjoying now going back and re-reading the runs with your blog and reading for the first time Backlash, Union and a few others I missed the first time round! Warts and all!
Keep up the great work, it’s bringing back lots of memories and bringing new enjoyment again!

I just stumbled upon your blog while trying to figure out if H.K. Proger is an alias of some other writer (still a mystery), only to discover we’re engaged in the same project (and, are in about the same spot)! I’m also reading early WildStorm this month to appreciate my longboxes and to get ready for the relaunch.
I look forward to checking back for your take on some of the issues I’ve already covered and keeping up as you continue.

Odd that you mention H. K. Proger, as I’ve been thinking the same thing for a while now, and had already written part of next week’s blog addressing it!
Checked in on what you’re doing over on your blog! WHOA! A much more accelerated schedule! And much heavier on the thought-provoking critique! Hell, I just plot recap, try to make a few jokes and then go all continuity nerd! I’m in awe, sir, in awe! Keep it up!

Hi Bryan, I’ve had a great time reading through your blog. It’s bringing back a lot of memories of my childhood growing up in a comic store and these Wildstorm books were my favorites. I appreciate your chronological reading order, but I was wondering if you had a publication date list, or if you could refer me to some references so I could hobble my own together? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Best,
Tom B.

Hey, thanks for reading and enjoying what I’m doing! I didn’t really keep too close of track of the publication dates, but you can find pretty much all that information at the ComicBookDB: http://comicbookdb.com Just type in a title and find what you want, it’ll give you and issue by issue breakdown of the publication dates!

This has helped me a bunch as I begin collecting and re-reading all the old WS stuff. I was a huge fan of these comics as a kid and have begun slowly getting back into comics as an adult, I absolutely love the old wildstorm stuff. The timeline is great and the articles detailing each issue are very enjoyable. Keep it up!!

I’ve been doing some old Wildstorm universe reading for the first time. I’ve finished Ellis’ Stormwatch, Moore’s Wildcats, Casey’s Wildcats, now working on Ellis’ Authority and Planetary will be after that. What other runs of books would you say are essential or classics like these? I’ve got Gen 13, Deathblow, DV8, Wetworks, Mr. Majestic, Welcome to Tranquility all downloaded, are there essential runs in them? Am I missing any series that I should look for? Thanks! Your site is awesome, been following for a while now.

The initial “Gen13” mini-series and maybe issues 1/2, 0 and 1 – 25 of the ongoing “Gen13” series is as close to “essential” runs there. I really liked the Adam Warren issues that comprised issues 60 – 77, I don’t know if anyone would call them essential, but I loved them.
“Deathblow” is kind of short, with only 26 issues. I think the books early issues are pretty good, but for me it really picked up at issue 17 through the end. A lot of it tied into the Team 7 books and then lead to the big “Fire from Heaven” cross-over.
I don’t know that I’d call anything from “DV8,” “Wetworks,” “Majestic” or “Welcome to Tranquility” classic or essential, but “Majestic” was always a pretty fun book and “Welcome to Tranquility” was rad and cool as hell, even if it was pretty separate from the rest of the WildStorm Universe.
Other things to look out for: James Robinison’s run on “WildC.A.T.s” is pretty damn good, all three of the “Team 7” series are good worth reading as well. “Sleeper” is a must read! It qualifies as both essential and classic! Heck, outside of WildStorm I’d still hold it up as a classic comic series in general!

Hi, Jose! I was wondering how much you’d recommend buying Savant Garde and The Patriots. I’m trying to read and collect as much Wildstorm as possible, but it’s been difficult not only finding decent prices for various uncollected series as well as reviews for them. Thank you for your conitnued dedication to this blog/guide!

“Savant Garde” is fun, but not too integral to anything. “The Patriots” is OK, as it was started by Choi, and to make sense of the end of it you’ll already need to have read “Sci-Tech” also by Choi.

Do you ever plan on adding a list for the DC wildstorm? I’m still looking for cameos and debuts on everything that has popped up and if any of the earlier stuff is canon connected to the newest teams of wildcats and authority

for WildStorm in the DCU, I’ll direct you to this sister blog: https://new52wildstorm.wordpress.com/
As far as what was canon? Not so sure, I’d say the books from a few years ago “Grayson” (features Midnighter & Grifter), “Midnighter” and “Midnighter and Apollo” being the most likely still canon books from that era before “The Wild Storm” was being published and the WS characters being quietly retired in the DCU, prior to them showing up again.

Thank you so much for this.
I’m a younger Wildstorm fan. Most of my collection comes from my grandad so the issues of stories I have are all over the place! This really helps me more than I can ever express.
I’ve really grown to love this universe, my first introduction to it was through the Stormwatch and Authority stories, one of my favorites ever but oh my goodness has WildCats and Gen 13 kind of taken over my world right now and I haven’t had any idea where I should start. I’m over the moon! Thank you for all you do.
